The Ohio State Board of Education has six at-large members and eleven Districts. Our District, District Two, covers most of Fulton and all of Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Huron, Erie, and Lorain counties. Normally this seat would not be on the ballot. However, the prior member resigned, the Governor has appointed a Republican replacement, and now this is on the November ballot very unexpectedly.
This is a non-partisan race: the candidate’s identification will not appear on the ballot. But there are apparently Democrats who would like to run and have approached us about endorsing one of them. So we are going to consider it.
To do so, we need to get people properly vetted and screened. On this page is our request-for-endorsement packet. We need to get this into our office in the next few days, by August 3 @ 5 PM. This will allow our Screening Committee a chance to meet with the potential candidates and make a recommendation so we can consider endorsing at our next Executive Committee Meeting on August 13th.
You will still need to contact your local Board of Elections to get petitions, information on the deadline and how many signatures you will need to gather. They have all of those at the Lucas County Board of Elections, which can be reached at (419) 213-4001.
Contact Chairman Young at Lucas County Democratic Headquarters, or firstname.lastname@example.org, if you have any questions.
